The green and golds raced in five unanswered tries during the first two quarters of their Maas Group Western Youth League clash with Hawks, the blazing start enough for Cam Jones' men to secure a derby sweep in 2020 thanks to a 26-10 victory.
Barmstorming backrower Jesse Buchan bagged a first-half double while Rohan Bouffler, Cody Kelso and Will Tink also grabbed four-pointers in the 30-minute route that set-up an important win.
On the back of four games in 10 days, CYMS' stuttered over the course of the opening round of the new, Western wide tournament but a more consistent line-up, along with a string of home games, has the green and golds well and truly in finals contention.
It's good to get over them.
- A smiling Pat Williams after CYMS beat Hawks for a second time in 2020.
The 16-point win over Hawks leaps CYMS over their cross-town rivals into the top two of the league's eastern pool.
"It's good to get over them," CYMS co-captain Pat Williams smiled.
"Hopefully we can keep building on this because it's be an interesting challenge, the new competition. It'll be good to match-up against a few teams we haven't played before.
"We're back to one game every seven days now and it makes it a hell of a lot easier."
And that ease was displayed in the first half of Sunday's game.
On the back of a lop-sided weight of possession, CYMS was dominant in the first 30 minutes but it was a completely different story in the second half.
Hawks wrestled its way back into the contest, Jake Blimka's physical under 18s side taking the task up to CYMS pack.
It resulted in a try to hooker Ben Blimka just after the break - his effort a clever little short-side raid - while halfback Mitch Watts also scored after some great lead-up work from the super-impressive Kade Cotter in pursuit of a two blues kick.
The pair of bright spots gives Blimka hope Hawks will feature in the finals but skipping back to third will make that assignment all the more tougher.
The damage was done in the first two terms and Hawks' coach lamented his side's lack of control during that time.
"The first half, we've struggled with it all year and it comes down to discipline. We've got to be tougher," he said. "But there's good signs."
Blimka senior was thrilled with the work of his younger brother Ben throughout the game: "I never give him a rap but it was the best I've seen him play."
While the Pollack twins threw themselves at CYMS' pack all day. It was an onslaught Williams said his side was ready for.
"We knew they'd come out hard in first 10 minutes. We had to weather the storm to be able to get over the top of them," the diminuative half said.
As he was in the two sides' first meeting, Kelso was again tremendous for CYMS while his backrow partner Buchan proved a valuable strike weapon on the opposite side of the field.
