David Anthony Scott, 24, of Anson Street, was stopped for a breath test in Garden Street after they saw him driving 15km/h in a 50km/h zone along Bathurst Road and Glenroi Avenue at 4.35pm on May 22.
According to police he was too intoxicated to get his licence out of his wallet when an officer approached his car so he handed his wallet to the police officer.
He returned a positive breath test and was taken to Orange Police Station where he returned a high-range reading of 0.188.
Scott admitted to drinking three full-strength beers and three glasses of wine of an unknown size between 11am and 4pm that day.
Solicitor Clive Hill said Johnson had gone out to buy takeaway food as a favour for a family member.
Magistrate David Day said the slow speed indicated that Scott knew he was affected by alcohol.
Mr Day gave him a six-month community correction order, disqualified his driver's licence for six months and placed him on a 24-month interlock order.
