The competition had its first season last year with four age groups, and the association was able to build on that to be sitting at the edge of holding a fully-fledged six-team winter competition in 2020 before coronavirus upended the sporting landscape.
The ODFA currently has two teams which are basically all-female lining up in the fourth grade of its competition - from Waratahs and Cowra - while some other teams are mixed.
The expansion of the summer season is aimed to boost those female numbers from 120 last season to the point where they can run the women's league in 2021.
We're hoping to build off that announcement.
- ODFA administrator Brett Hazzard
ODFA administrator Brett Hazzard said he was hopeful the announcement of the 2023 World Cup would provide the women's game with a big boost, and a November competition was well placed to take advantage of potential increased interest.
"We're hoping to build off that announcement to help grow the game," Hazzard said.
"We'll see how well received it is, a six-team comp up would be great but we'll have to see how registrations go."
The ODFA competition will have five-on-five games for lower age groups - under 8s, 10s and 12s, while seven-one-seven in under 14s, 16s and opens, with games set to be held on smaller pitches at Jack Brabham Park.
The plan is for the ODFA to kick off in November, with a break over Christmas and New Year before a finish in March.
Hazzard said he was hoping to have Kinross switch from the Bathurst District Football Association competitions to the ODFA to help bolster numbers, while also increasing participation across the board for women and girls looking to get involved in the sport.
