Police were patrolling the Orange CBD on January 21, when they saw Tyk Cochrane, 21, of Sir Neville Howse Place, with two other males.
According to police, the three males froze when they saw the police car, and when the police stopped Cochrane put a plastic bag down the front of his pants.
Cochrane denied putting anything down his pants but when police searched all three males they found the cannabis hidden in sports shorts he was wearing under his tracksuit pants.
When questioned by police he said it was "a gram or two", which solicitor Nico Rump supported when he represented Cochrane via a video link due to COVID-19 restrictions.
"This is a very small amount considering it was in a sandwich bag and it was weighed in the bag," Mr Rump said.
Magistrate David Day convicted Cochrane for the drug possession but did not add a further penalty.
Mr Day said Cochrane had a "terrible" record as a juvenile but not as an adult so he could be one of the majority of young offenders who stop committing crimes as they get older.
