The side's 1-115 chasing Centrals' 211, with Hugh Middleton unbeaten on 71 and Matt Corben - who'll miss this week - to retire on 11.
Orange has five to 10mm of rain expected on Saturday, with most of that expected to come in the afternoon and evening, so Cavaliers' bats will know they have to get a wriggle on should they get on the park against Daryl Kennewell's troops.
Cook is keen for his debut as first grade captain.
"It'll be a good experience, especially with the other experienced guys there to give a hand if needed," he said.
Middleton will be crucial in getting the runs with captain Corben, Bailey Ferguson and Mitch Black all unavailable, but Cook said he was backing his batting order in.
"The games in a great spot for us at the moment only needing 90 odd, especially with how Hughy was hitting them last week and plenty of batting to come," he said.
"There's not much we can do about the rain, if it comes well we'd like to have first innings points and be pushing further in front but we'll have to wait and see what happens."
While his first innings with the bat is done after being caught of Zach Bayliss for 32, Cook may have a part to play should the side have any chance of hunting an outright win.
He'll both call the shots and keep wicket for the side should they get back out in the field, but it's an outside chance with 96 runs to get and rain expected to take a chunk of play off the table on Saturday.
In the other games in Orange, Centennials Bulls is 5-128 chasing CYMS 180 at Riawena Oval, with the green and golds playing for rain at the very least to give the pitch some juice, if not to call the game off.
Kinross is 2-35 in reply to Orange City's 198, with Will Luelf not out on 21 and will prove the key pillar as part of his side's chase.
