The car, which was wrapped in police tape and had the number plates removed, had a smashed front windscreen and back window was well as shattered side windows.
Orange City Council Corporate and Community Relations manager Nick Redmond said the council was not aware how long the car had been at the location in its present condition.
He said the council did not receive a complaint about the abandoned car in Dora Street until mid-afternoon on Friday.
"It's important to remember that community members can be the eyes and ears of the council," Mr Redmond said.

"Don't assume someone else has already told the council about a problem you notice in your neighbourhood."
Mr Redmond said when someone calls the council about an abandoned car, there were routine checks to make sure it was not the subject of an ongoing police investigation.
He said abandoned cars were still privately-owned property and staff made reasonable attempts to find and contact the owner, before they could be taken away.
"If there are safety issues, it can be taken away sooner," Mr Redmond said.
It's expected the car in Dora Street will be removed next week, council is seeking the owner.
