Some other parts of the region - and indeed other parts of Orange - weren't as lucky.

A much-needed 132.8mm was recorded at the airport with 58.2mm and 21.6mm registering on January 26 and 27 respectively, although most other parts recorded closer to an accumulative total of 20mm during those falls which were extremely sporadic.

Currently, the entire region is in drought with an intense drought declared in 98.5 per cent of the Central Tablelands, 98.8 per cent of the Central West and 80.0 per cent of the South-East.

Parkes also received good rainfall with 79.0mm recorded, which was above the monthly average of 61.5mm.

In Wellington 81.4mm of rain fell (the average is 59.2mm), Cowra had 70.6mm (average of 59.6mm) and Forbes had 48.4mm (average of 28.1mm).

While in Cootamundra 56.1mm of rain was recorded, which is above the January average of 43.1mm.

All other towns received below average rainfall for the month, Bureau of Meteorology data shows.

In Bathurst 48.4mm was recorded (average of 63.0mm), Dubbo had 36.0mm (average of 56.9mm), Goulburn had 22.0 (average 62.2mm) and Lithgow had 69.8mm (average of 94.3mm).

During January Mudgee had 31.8mm of rain (average of 67.6mm), Oberon had 32.2mm which was well below the average of 80.1, and Young received 20.0mm (average of 52.2mm).

The hot and dry weather is predicted to continue for the next three months, the Bureau of Meteorology's Climate and Water Outlook released on Thursday states.
