People have been donating canned goods and non-perishables, toiletries, clothes and other items, dropping them at the Orange Tennis Centre, but Orange resident Rachel Gentles is starting an effort to help firefighters.
She spoke with Chris Googe from the North-West Rural Fire Service brigade to ask how people in Orange could help support volunteer firefighters.
"They've been fighting fires for four months, it's hard reading about it all and seeing it all and not knowing how to help, so I wanted to ask," Miss Gentles said.
She'd been told firefighters needed supplies, with water, snacks, electrolytes at the top of the list of things RFS volunteers need on the fireground.
Pawpaw ointment, face wipes and eye drops are also needed.
The donations will be given to the North-West brigade who will take them to the fireground.
Mrs Gentles said she would be going around to Orange supermarkets asking for donations as well as purchasing supplies.
"I hope this brings some comfort and strength to whoever receives it," she said.
The Rural Fire Service has said anyone delivering donations to the South Coast will not be allowed entry, while they've also asked people to donate money if possible, which is more flexible than donations and doesn't require storage.
However the RFS is still welcoming donations of physical goods for victims of the fires gripping the country.
Miss Gentles said she would be happy to pick up donations on January 9 if people called her on 0448 426 725.
