The fire has surrounded Jenolan Caves leaving the historic site under threat and destroying the fire station of the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) Jenolan Caves brigade.
Australian Community Media understands that firefighters were battling to save their station from the inferno, before being forced to retreat due to the ferocity of the blaze.
Meanwhile, a multi-agency task force of firefighters is still on scene working to protect other buildings in the Jenolan Caves precinct, including the historic Caves House.
Crews from the RFS, Fire and Rescue NSW, National Parks and Wildlife Service as well as NSW Ambulance paramedics are at the scene.
