An application to turn half of the premises behind the former Kelly's Hotel into a drive through coffee shop has been given the green light.
Travis and Kelly Kerry intend to serve coffee from the right-hand section of the Lords Place drive through from February 2020, while the bottle shop remains functional from the left-hand side facing Moulder Street.
Mr Kerry said 'Coffee Rush' will serve toasted focaccias, wraps, croissants, pies and sausage rolls in addition to take-away coffees.
"There's already some beautiful cafes in town but we thought you could have somewhere you didn't have to get out of the car to get a coffee in the morning in the middle of winter," he said.
The drive through coffee shop will be open Monday to Sunday, with a 5am start on weekdays and 7am start on weekends.
Mr Kerry said there will be no development of the heritage-listed building and the site was chosen as somewhere with minimal impact to neighbours.
"We're locals in the town and we want to be able to work with everyone if there were any problems," he said.
The Kerrys currently own Central West Plastering which they will continue to run alongside their latest venture.
Both Mr and Mrs Kerry have a background in hospitality with, Mr Kerry undergoing a cheffing apprenticeship in Canberra before moving to Orange eight years ago.
He said he imagines the coffee shop will open up three full-time positions and around seven casual positions, with the couple seeking a managerial team to put in charge.
"We think the early shift may suit university students and mums with kids at school might pick up a few hours during the day," he said.
The Ophir Hotel publican Tim Ireson will continue on as owner of the premises and owner/operator of the drive through bottle shop.
