A man has been charged after allegedly attempting to hold up a Summer Street service station with a knife on Thursday morning.
The 32-year-old man allegedly filled up his car at the BP service station on Summer Street at about 12.30am on Thursday before entering the station and producing a knife and demanding the console operator hand over cigarettes.
The employee went to the rear office and contacted police and the man left the service station in his car empty handed.
Police attended the scene, where they established a crime scene and commenced an investigation, before arresting the man at his home on Burrendong Way.
He was taken to Orange Police Station and charged with attempted robbery armed with an offensive weapon, and dishonestly obtain property by deception.
Central West Police District Chief Inspector Peter Atkins said the staff member working at the service station was "obviously shaken" but otherwise uninjured in the incident.
No cash is believed to have been stolen.
The man is facing charges of armed robbery and fraud after being refused bail in Orange Local Court on Thursday.
