Myself and Ian Greenham from Orange City Council water flew around all of our streams and dams on August 23 this year.

Spring Creek dam was three parts full, Suma Park dam very low.
Then we flew down to Long Point crossing where a new dam should be built. If a new dam got built there it would be great for agriculture down stream and more water to many towns.
Water would flow past the pump station at Long Point and could be pumped back to Suma Park dam.
With this drought the pipeline back to Suma Park dam is useless without this dam at Long Point.
We then flew to Burrendong Dam.
The area is very low in water, the river is just running from snow a week back.
I have been told what water we have has to be better managed ... that's nearly impossible in a drought like this.

We flew all the streams and rivers and dams on July 6. This is the worst drought I have ever seen.
All weirs should be fixed back up so more water can be stored. The weirs are Gin Gin, Warren and Walgett.
Pipelines only pump water around without new dams to store more water population will out grow what water will be available in 20 years time.
Water used in all homes in Orange per day ends up in Orange sewer and ends up at Cadia mines.
This drought has been coming for several years.
And when this drought breaks it shall take several years to come back to normal again. It shall take a lot of rain.
I have been told what water we have has to be better managed.
That's nearly impossible in a drought like this.
