Police found 0.2 grams of the drug after seeing Adam Troy Hartigan, 38, of Kurim Avenue drop something into a garden.
Hartigan was sentenced in his absence in Orange Local Court after his car was noticed by police on the Northern Distributor Road on July 25 because its registration was expired.
Hartigan drove into a car park and abandoned the vehicle.
However, witnesses pointed police in the direction the driver had gone and they saw Hartigan drop something into the garden bed.
He was arrested and told police he intended to use the drug himself.
Hartigan was also fined for two other matters during last week's court date.
He was fined $340 for refusing to comply with a prohibition or requirement, and $1100 for resisting police.
