The Orange High School graduate has signed up to eat like a refugee during Refugee Week, which will run 16-23 June.
For the week, participants of The Ration Challenge will limit their diet to the same quantity of rations distributed to Syrian refugees in camps in Jordan.
The ration pack includes just a small amount of rice, beans, chickpeas, lentils, fish, oil and flour.
Miss Benton has called on family and friends to support her efforts to raise funds for children and families threatened by conflict and disaster around the world.
She said with the knowledge some refugees live off rations for months at a time she's pretty confident in her ability to "suck it up" for one week.
"I'm not worried. I'm more just interested to see how it goes," she said.
Miss Benton said she'll miss coffee more than anything, but hopes by the end of the week the money her and other participants have raised will go towards improving the lives of refugees.
Established in 2014, the Challenge has had more than 40,000 people take part.
Teachers and students from more than 90 schools collectively raised more than $315,000 when the schools program was piloted for the first time last year.
Co-founder of Act for Peace, the humanitarian aid agency that initiated the challenge, Karen McGrath said this year they're hoping even more schools will come on board.
"By eating what a refugee eats, children are stepping into the shoes of another person in another country, and experiencing just one of the many struggles that refugees face on a daily basis," she said.
"We encourage all teachers, parents and children to get involved."
