The Lions continued their strong form in the under-19 competition with a 31-7 victory over the still-winless greens while Emus' women chalked up another big win over their cross-city rivals, running out 92-5 victors.
All four sides battled the elements on a bitterly cold night at the Lions' den, also being forced to fight against a blanket of darkness at one end of Pride Park due to a faulty light tower.
They still produced exciting performances though, with Lions' flanker Fletcher Rose picking up a double in the colts win the night before backing up on the side of Orange City's scrum in the top grade, with Nathan Swain, Jacob Nash and Ben Dennis also scoring five-pointers as well.
Kyran Ah-See scored Emus' lone try as the greens remain cemented to the bottom of the table, although the 26-point defeat and the performance they produced was encouraging.
In the women's game Lailee Phillips and Tanya Miller both scored hat-tricks in Emus' 13-tries-to-one win over the fighting Lions, the developing Orange City side again showing plenty of glimpses of their ability in front of good crowd considering the weather.
Tabua Tuinakauvadra crossed for a double as well, with Jordan Garlick scoring the Lions' lone five-pointer in a game played, as usual, in the best of spirits.
"It was a good night of rugby, the Lions boys played really well in the colts game and showed why they're towards the top of the table. Our guys tried hard and showed glimpses of their best, which we'll keep working towards," Emus colts co-coach Tom Goolagong said.
"The women's game was great to watch too. Obviously our women got the result they wanted but those games are always played in great spirits and it's great to see the two sides enjoying their rugby.
"It was a good way to open a really big weekend for both clubs."
The win was Emus' sixth from seven starts, their only defeat so far coming at the hands of defending premiers Bathurst Bulldogs, and pushes the greens to the top of the table, for a day at least.
The defending premiers' game on Saturday would play a big role in whether they stayed at the top or not.
The two games opened a whopping weekend of rugby in the colour city, with the Blowes Clothing Cup second and first grade derbies played at Wade Park on Saturday alongside Eastern Suburbs and Gordon's Intrust Super Shute Shield Beach to Bush Regional Round.
Kinross and St Stanislaus College Bathurst's annual grudge match was also on Saturday afternoon, with the former school, Emus, Orange City and Gordon all donning Indigenous jerseys as well.
