Year 6, to be exact, back in 2009 at Molong Central School. The best mates have basically done everything together ever since.
But come Sunday at the Dr Ross Memorial Recreation Ground Gersbach will don red and white and Barrow, back with the Bulls, will run out in blue.
It's the one time you'll find this pair doing things differently - and they wouldn't have it any other way.
"We can't wait to stick it into them," Gersbach smiled ahead of the first Manildra and Molong derby since August 2, 2009.
We've grown up hearing footy stories about Molong and Manildra and the rivalry there.
- Rhinos backrower Harrison Gersbach.
"I'm from Manildra and all my family is from Manildra and Jye and his family is obviously from Molong.
"We've grown up hearing footy stories about Molong and Manildra and the rivalry there. We can't wait to be part of it."
Manildra finished as minor premiers in 2009 but bowed out of the finals race in straight sets before folding ahead of the 2010 season.
Molong succumbed to the same fate as their Cabonne rivals in mid-2013 but before that the two clubs shared a fierce rivalry.
The 2008 season was one of those periods, when Woodbridge Cup had 11 sides and employed a top eight finals system.
The clubs squared off twice in that finals series and following the mid-season switch of Jamie Thorpe from the Rhinos to the Bulls those derbies were particularly brutal.
Sunday's derby won't be as barbaric but the Molong club is anticipating a grand final-like crowd for what is a second-versus-third clash.
The Bulls have stunned many to rocket into the Cup's top three and following a victory over the Goannas at Grenfell last week Barrow says Molong heads into Sunday's clash with the Rhinos with plenty of confidence.
... no one predicted us to be top five but that's good; there's no pressure on us.
- Jye Barrow on Molong's return to the Woodbridge Cup.
"Bloody oath, that was a big effort from us," he said.
"I thought it might have taken us a few more games to gel a bit but we're flying under the radar, no one predicted us to be top five but that's good; there's no pressure on us."
Gersbach will line-up on Manildra's left edge in the backrow while Barrow is back in the centres this week and will play on the opposite side of the field - which is a good thing.
"He'd probably run me over," Barrow laughed.
The pair will have to back up on Sunday after Woodbridge Cup tackles the New Era Cup representative outfit at Cargo on Saturday.
Barrow will skipper the side at lock while Gersbach will line-up in the backrow.
"I don't know what to expect, I think they'll be strong being an opens side but we've got a good young side that can match it with them," Barrow said.
Sunday's derby starts at 2pm, with youth league kicking off the day at 11.20am.
