More than 2000 people are expected to take part in the 70 kilometre, 100km and 170km rides, which travel through Canowindra, Cargo, Belubula Way, Mandurama and Forest Reefs.
Also new for 2019 will be a 700 metre dash, with the fastest female and male rider timed during a race around the park on Saturday to each take home $1000.
Riders tell us that they love the energy in Orange and out on the route around local towns and farms. We want to maximise this and make riders want to tell their friends about Orange and visit again
- Rebecca Lane
Bicycle Network’s General Manager of Events, Rebecca Lane said Orange is going to be on show for thousands across the weekend and they would love to see businesses and the public get involved.
“Come on down to the riding route or the event village and join the party. There will be special games and activities for children as well as local food," she said.
Ms Lane said feedback from participants of previous rides was that the buzz created by the community was the best bit about the event and encouraged them to return to the region.
“Riders tell us that they love the energy in Orange and out on the route around local towns and farms. We want to maximise this and make riders want to tell their friends about Orange and visit again,” she said.
Last year’s Newcrest Orange Challenge donated almost $10,000 to community groups.
Cadia Valley Operations General Manager, Peter Sharpe, said Newcrest had sponsored the ride for the past four years because it provides a positive impact on tourism and promotes healthy living.
People can get involved by volunteering and helping behind the scenes. Bicycle Network will provide a money donation for every volunteer at the event.
Riders of all levels and experience are invited to participate. The time-trial race will take place on March 30 and the three long rides will talk place on March 31.
