Twelve members of the Youth Action Council, supported by NSW Police and Roundabout Central West, painted over a fence adjoining D’Aquino Liquor on Bathurst Road and one of Central West Exhausts’ exterior walls on Peisley Street.
Fourteen-year-old Chloe Fields was one of the volunteers, alongside 11-year-old sister Lily.
“I wanted to help the community look better and get rid of all the negative things,” she said.
Central West Police District Senior Constable Granton Smith said graffiti removal was an important part of crime prevention.
“There’s a broken windows theory – if it’s left, other than being an eyesore, it creates the appearance of somewhere that’s associated with crime,” he said.
“The sooner it’s removed and kept nice, it more helps to deter malicious damage and graffiti.”
