Mr Winters said the seat, paid for by the Friends of the Orange Botanic Gardens group, consisted of 48 pieces of spotted gum on a steel frame and was a three-month project.
“It is near the function centre, it is quite an important spot visually, it overlooks the gardens, I wanted to create something with a vaguely botanical look,” he said.
“It sort of floats above the ground.
“This is the sort of project I loved doing.”
Orange mayor Reg Kidd welcomed the anniversary and said his link with the gardens went back 40 years.
“ I was one of the founding members of the committee to build the gardens,” he said.
Cr Kidd said there was a lot of clearing and site preparation before the buildings were constructed in 1988.
He said the first committee meeting was back in 1979-80 with the project being launched by Betty Cuthbert at the Orange Civic Centre in 1982.
With the help of Bicentennial project funding the gardens were officially opened in 1988.
