A Forbes police spokeswoman said an emergency call was placed by a woman on Sunday evening.
“A 72-year-old man was reported missing by his wife,” the spokeswoman said.
“She said he’d gone out to do some farm work and hadn’t returned by 6.30pm.
“At 9.30pm police attended the property and he was located in an old mine shaft.”
State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers were called to the scene to assist with the rescue.
“The SES retrieved him and he was airlifted to Liverpool Hospital,” she said.
