Combining running and wine the Grapest 5k Run is coming to Mudgee.
For Mudgee’s first year as a location for the event, Bunnamagoo Estate Wines have uncorked the barrel of opportunity and will be the venue.
The nation-wide event offers a five or 10 kilometre run, walk or skip through the vineyard of of a chosen estate.
Race Director Peter Manning, said although the event has travelled all across the countryside, there is a sense of excitement to bring the race to Mudgee.
“We’re really looking forward to coming to Mudgee,” he said.
“We go to the best of the best vineyards across Australia so it’s a really great thing Mudgee is on the list...we just can’t wait.”
The one off event, offers people the chance to have a rare opportunity, doubling as the only event of its kind.
Participants run, walk or skip through vines and are rewarded with a ‘wine waddle’ once they have completed the course.
"If all goes well and the vineyards are happy to have us, we would love to make it an annual event."
This is where participants get eight tickets to attend four different stations, trying two wines at each, sipping on what Bunnamagoo Estate has to offer.
Cellar door Manager at Bunnamagoo Estate wines said the event is definitely one to pencil in.
“If you like wine and exercise then this is for you,” she said.
Mr Manning said it’s not all about the exercise, but more so about tasting award winning local wine.
“It’s not all about the running, but more so about celebrating local wine, live music - a band from Brisbane, and just fun.”
The event usually attracts anywhere between 500 to 1,000 numbers - an overall benefit to the community.
“Usually accommodation is fully booked out, and people who aren’t from the area go out and eat or drink at different places....and we also hire local people as well to help with the event,” Mr Manning said.
If the event is a success, it is said it will continue to be brought to Mudgee each year.
“If all goes well and the vineyards are happy to have us, we would love to make it an annual event,” Mr Manning said.
