The blue and golds entered the clash on level pegging with Zig Zag in terms of the competition standings and scoring a win over the Lithgow outfit was crucial to the Orange side’s hopes of avoiding the wooden spoon.
Thanks to goals from Lilly Baker, Jade Williams and Rochelle Burcher, Ex-Services claimed that victory emphatically, winning 3-nil to push four points ahead of Zig Zag, the Lithgow side now sits outright last with three regular-season rounds remaining.
The win is an undeniable confidence boost for Ex-Services although considering they trail fifth-placed Confederates by 12 points on the ladder they won’t be able to move any higher than sixth, a spot they occupy now.
There’s nothing to suggest Ex-Services won’t finish the season well though, and the blue and golds can have a massive say in the final standings considering they play competitions leaders Bathurst St Pat’s, second-placed Lithgow Panthers and then Confederates in the final three rounds.
It had been a long time since Ex-Services had tasted victory, while the side hadn’t won a game in 2018 their drought actually stretched back to round 11 of last year, on July 15, when they defeated Parkes United 1-nil courtesy of a Baker goal.
