These guys are in the impact zone when it comes to scrums, they do some heavy lifting in the line-outs and they’re the key at the breakdown.
But don’t think these guys are all size and no speed.
To be a prop these days you also need to be able to bust through the defence and make a break before delivering a clever offload to your supporting player.
These guys can do just that, but you can only pick two.
THE CONTENDERS:
Haemani Lavaka - Parkes Boars
One of the oldest players in the competition but still able to give anyone who takes him on a hard time. Lavaka has played international rugby for Tonga and his experience shows on the field. He has plenty of skills and, even though he’s an elder statesman of the competition, his fitness means he can more than keep up.
Chris Plunkett - Bathurst Bulldogs
Plunkett brings a lot of experience to the Bulldogs pack.
He has represented NSW Country as well as being a member of the Bulldogs’ first grade side for the last four years.
This guy knows how to get the job done.
Brian Swords - Cowra Eagles
Swords is a consistent performer for the Eagles.
He’s steady and experienced and his improved fitness this season has paid dividends in 2013.
He has played every game this season and never disappointed for a side which looks set to make an impact in the finals.
Jimmy Roberts - Orange Emus
The smallest of the four finalists, but that doesn’t mean he’s not worthy of one of your two votes.
Roberts punches above his weight when it comes to scrums and knows how to pilfer a ball at the breakdown.
Plus he’s got a turn of speed many other props would envy, making him dangerous when he cuts through the defensive line for the greens.
