Mt Hotham's director of ski patrol Jordan O'Neill said Australia's alpine regions were not quite high enough to maintain low temperatures all season.
That resulted in a mix of rain and snow which leads to icy conditions.
"We experienced a lot of very icy conditions this year that I haven't seen for many years," he said.
"That creates a very significant sliding hazard and as soon as you get onto a bit of a slope in those icy conditions, you can fall and slide."
Avalanches and icy conditions were the main dangers that ski patrols monitored. There have been three rescue operations caused by the icy conditions at Mt Hotham this season.
Muscle Joint Bone osteopath Dr Nathan Katsanevakis helps a lot of patients with ski injuries.
An avid skier, Dr Katsanevakis said the deeper snow conditions in Australia meant skiers' legs could get a lot more tired and knees could twist more often in the snow.
To prepare for the snow conditions Dr Katsanevakis recommended basic fitness exercises to strengthen the hamstrings, quads, and glutes.
"They just give you a lot more structural rigidity to areas that are more vulnerable to injuries," he said.
The two most common ski injuries he treated were medial collateral ligament and anterior cruciate ligament damage.
"The two most common would defiantly be ACL and MCL injuries and then after that, you can throw anything from broken collarbones, dislocated shoulders, and concussions are pretty common as well," he said.
Muscle Joint Bone's clinical team advises taking ski lessons to learn the proper techniques and wearing the correct ski equipment.
"You've got to be realistic with your ability, getting prepared with your physical fitness and ski lessons will help avoid injuries," Dr Katsanevakis said.
