The Australian actor was also known for his roles in Chopper and Neighbours.
He was pulled unconscious from South Beach in Fremantle, WA, on March 16 and was unable to be revived.
His brother Michael Hardy confirmed the news of the sudden passing of his "beloved little brother" on March 16.
Peter Hardy starred as Phil Rakich in 44 episodes of Australian television series McLeod's Daughters.

"Words cannot express how deeply I feel this loss," Mr Burns said.
"He was a superb actor a wonderful singer and guitarist, he also played drums and sax.
"He always loved performing in the theatre as well as film and TV."
Mr Hardy was born in Perth on January 11, 1957.
