Young Orange students tackled these questions with the Questacon Science Squad yesterday.
The squad, an outreach program of Canberra’s Questacon centre, has brought two of its interactive shows to Orange for sustainability week.
The climate change show encourages primary school students to think about the impact their decisions can have on the environment.
“Climate change is a difficult issue to talk to primary school children about, so we focus on things we’re doing at home,” education officer Anna Paull said.
The show uses multimedia, props and volunteers to show the effect rising temperatures could have on the environment and future weather patterns.
Students are also asked to vote on some of the practical ways they can reduce their energy consumption at home.
“We learnt it’s important not to use too much power and to recycle,” Kinross Wolaroi School year four student Cameron Pasquali said.
“We learnt about climate change and things like cyclones that can happen because of it.”
The senior show, Extreme Energy, focuses on different types of energy and renewable options.
