The six by six metre pool, at Fitness Perfection, has been put forward as a possible site for hydrotherapy patients who use Apex House, should that pool close after the opening of the new Orange Base Hospital.
Fitness Perfection managing director Paul Davidson said increased demand for hydrotherapy and learn to swim services had made it difficult to accommodate clients with a single pool.
“We were finding sometimes that learn to swim would restrict access to hydrotherapy,” he said.
“The demand for hydrotherapy and learn to swim has increased and we’re finding we’re also getting a lot of referrals from Sydney-based surgeons.”
Arthritis NSW is pushing the Greater Western Area Health Service (GWAHS) to provide funding for a new hydrotherapy pool at the Orange indoor aquatic centre.
Branches director Russell Moor said the group could consider approaching Fitness Perfection if funding from GWAHS wasn’t forthcoming and the Apex House facility closed.
He said it cost patients two dollars a session to use the current pool.
A weekly off-peak rate at Fitness Perfection would cost nine dollars ninety-five.
“We would be interested in anything that would help us,” he said.
“At the moment, our key aim is keeping the existing pool operational, at least until the new one opens.”
He said some hydrotherapy patients would also need a pool that gave them privacy from other swimmers.
Mr Davidson said groups could book an entire pool for hydrotherapy sessions.
“We already do that on many occasions throughout the day,” he said.
GWAHS has previously said that the future of the Apex House pool has not been decided.
