The collection of watercolours, created by local artist Elaine Mortimer, reflect the many colours and picturesque sceneries around Orange.
Opening the Warriwillah Art School in Millthorpe to teach painting and pottery, Mrs Mortimer’s life has been filled with art.
“She has been painting since she was 16, and she is now 72,” Mrs Mortimer’s son Peter said.
Mr Mortimer said his mother tended to paint “whatever takes her fancy” and is currently travelling through Turkey to paint the country’s exotic landscapes.
“I told her to get out here and depict the region with its colours,” Mr Mortimer said.
“Orange is beautiful all year ‘round.”
Beginning in February, Mrs Mortimer painted landscapes and still lifes of the autumn and winter scenery around the Central West.
“There is quite a range,” Mr Mortimer said.
“But she will think that’s all in the past now and she’ll come back with a sketch book full of sketches and paintings from Turkey.
“She went for the different landscape and buildings and the challenge.”
The Watercolours of Orange exhibition opens tomorrow at 2pm.
