KINROSS all-rounder Chris Tremain has beaten out some top performers this season to be named Orange Cricketer of the Year.
Tremain began playing in Orange 14 months ago and quickly stamped himself as a regular in any Orange representative team and as one of the top players in Orange District Cricket Association first grade.
The 17-year-old finished ahead of Cavaliers opener Trent Colley and Waratahs captain Ray Doolan in the final standings.
Tremain was the leading wicket-taker in first grade this season with 32 scalps at an average of 10.63, and he also contributed 336 runs with the bat for an average of 33.6.
The right-arm quick represented Orange at open level and was also part of the victorious colts outfit.
He went on to further represent Mitchell and Western Zone in both age groups, all on top of other school-based commitments.
Tremain was unaware he was in the running for the award and is happy to have proven himself worthy of the honour ahead of some quality opposition.
“I’m very happy with it. I’m a bit surprised, but I can’t really complain,” Tremain said.
“If I didn’t get the award and if someone else had got it, it wouldn’t really have bothered me all that much because there are a lot of good cricketers in Orange.
“I guess it’s just a bonus getting it, a bit of a kick to finish the season.”
The fast bowling prodigy may not be around to defend his title next season, though, as the Year 12 Kinross Wolaroi School student weighs up his options after school.
A move down to Sydney to play grade cricket is certainly an option, but the 17-year-old is yet to decide on his future.
“I’m certainly thinking about it,” Tremain said of a move to Sydney.
“It’s a plan, but I’ve got a lot of options on my plate at the moment, so I don’t really know what to do. I could go overseas.”
Colley and Doolan would also be worthy winners of the Orange Cricketer of the Year Award after outstanding seasons.
Colley made plenty of runs in the top order for Cavaliers and also represented Orange, Mitchell and Western Zone at open level.
Doolan was the leading run scorer in first grade with a whopping 884 runs, but a reduced representative calendar saw the Waratahs skipper effectively out of the running.
