Between noon and 2pm children can go on a lap of the old track in Herbie and some of the other classic cars participating in the event.
Herbie starred in the 1969 film the Love Bug, had a mind of its own and was capable of driving itself .
Herbie, made available to the event thanks to VW dealers West Orange Motors, is distinguished by red, white and blue racing stripes and the number 53.
As well as the car rides there will be billy cart races for kids and adults, and a display of radio controlled model racing cars and kites.
Gnoo Blas Classic Car Club president Denis Gregory said the event’s organising committee is putting up as many marquees as it can find so spectators can have a brief respite from the expected heat.
“There will lots of food and refreshments available all day so we’re hoping people will able to cool down when they need to,” he said.
Tomorrow some 100 visitors will be taken on a scenic drive to Peter and Julie Mortimer’s winery at March and then on to Lake Canobolas for a picnic lunch.
More than 200 cars will be on display today.
