He wants his side to make it two Cup titles in a row but he wants to be there if they win it this time.
Maw shattered a bone in his left hand during Waratahs semi-final victory over Orange City last season.
This ruled him out of the grand final and he hasn’t forgotten.
He was there to see Waratahs win the Royal Hotel Cup last season but this time it’s different for the 26-year-old.
“I think I’m putting more effort in because I know what I missed last season,” Maw said.
“I’m making sure I’m there this time. I feel like I owe something to the team even though they won it.”
The all-rounder is keen to do well in the competition he enjoys the most.
“I love it. It suits my game a lot more,” Maw said.
“I can see the white ball a bit more and play a few more shots. I love it. I wish we could play it all year round.” Maw has mixed feelings about his form this season with the bat and the ball.
In Waratahs first round victory over Orange City Maw struggled with the ball to finish with 0-41 but made up for it with the bat scoring 59.
“I love it. It suits my game a lot more.”
In his side’s most recent Royal Hotel Cup victory, Maw claimed 3-7 during his spell with the ball in a low-scoring win over Rugby Union.
There has been only one game in the Orange District Cricket Association first grade competition where Maw has not taken a wicket.
Waratahs will take on CYMS in tonight’s Royal Hotel Cup match.
It will decide which team will claim top spot in pool A with both sides tied on 27 points and no-one else within reach.
Waratahs have won all three matches while CYMS have had two wins and a wash out.
Waratahs captain Steve Priest said his side is working towards winning back-to-back Royal Hotel Cup titles.
“We set a goal at the start of the season to win the comp again and going through the season undefeated would be a great bonus,” Priest said.
“You want a tough game going into the semi-finals. I expect them to be motivated.”
Waratahs will be bolstered by the return of Matt Brakenridge who will shore up the middle of the batting order and give them another bowling option.
Tonight’s game will be played at Wade Park from 5.30pm.
