ORANGE has two representatives in the Australia A Schoolboys rugby union team after Brock McGarity and Corey Brown were named in a 24-man squad following the Australian Schools Championship.
Brown, a fullback from Kinross, and McGarity, a five-eighth who goes to school at Bathurst's St Stanislaus College, were both understandably pleased with their selections.
"I was heaps happy. All of my goals had finally come to a good ending," Brown said.
"The way I've been playing I thought I'd make it but you never know really."
McGarity was a little less jubilant as he was disappointed with his performances last week at the schools championship.
"If I had of played my best and made the Australian A side I would have been happy but I didn't play my best," McGarity said.
"I was still pretty good, I'm still happy to be in the Australian A team."
The squad was named after Queensland 1 beat NSW 1, the side featuring McGarity and Brown, 23-17 in the final at Canberra's Viking Park on Sunday. McGarity landed a conversion in the loss.
Both players were overjoyed to make the final despite Queensland coming back from a 12-3 deficit to record the six-point win.
"That was good even though we didn't win," McGarity said.
"We were up 12-3 early but we didn't really see the ball (after that)."
Brown added: "We beat Queensland 1 during the week and then we lost to them in the final but it was heaps good to make the final,"
The Australia A Schoolboys team will play England's under 18's side in Brisbane on August 15 and both players are excited about wearing the green and gold.
"It will be awesome, I can't wait," Brown said.
