This is to prevent them from either drinking their turps or dipping the paint brush in their coffee; a mistake many artists have made.
Members of the Orange Art Society will be putting all blunders aside when they hold their 43rd annual art exhibition this weekend.
A highlight of the local art scene, the exhibition will feature works by more than 30 local artists including Sue and Neil Skinner, Wanda Driscoll, Crystal Golding, Robert Keen and Joy Engleman.
The exhibition will be held in the main hall at the Orange Cultural Centre in Sale Street, with access via Woolworths car park.
Orange Art Society's Sue Skinner said the exhibition would feature an exciting selection of artworks by members young and old.
"The aim of the exhibition is to show off our work of the past year," she said.
"There is a huge mix of styles, all sizes and mediums, and all artworks will be for sale."
There will also be an exhibition of paintings by primary and secondary school students.
Orange Art Society was formed in 1964 to provide an opportunity for artists to pursue their love of painting, and currently has about 80 members.
The art exhibition will be held from 6.30pm to 9pm tomorrow night, with the official opening by Orange Mayor John Davis at 7pm. Entry costs $5, which includes drinks and nibbles, and all proceeds will go to the Northcott Society.
The exhibition will continue on Saturday from 9.30am to 5pm and Sunday from 9.30am to 4.30pm.
Weekend admission is free.
