JUNIOR goalkeepers were paid special attention at a keeping clinic on Monday night in Orange.
Over 20 junior keepers worked on their skills under the guidance of former Orange goalkeeper Amy Thornberry.
Thornberry, formerly Goodwin, divided the clinic into two sessions with the first focused on beginner keepers and learning the basic skills.
The second sessions were for more advanced junior keepers, many of whom are playing in first grade and Western Premier League, and introduced more advanced techniques.
Thornberry, who was part of the Australian Country women's team last year, said she enjoyed imparting her knowledge to younger keepers.
"I really enjoy it because I'm not keeping any more but I can still do development work in the area and give something back," Thornberry said.
"I was really well supported when I was playing."
Thornberry was a keeper for 14 years and 10 of those years she played in first grade and premier league.
Kinross hockey coach Jo McRae said the specialist clinic was necessary and thanked Ian Parker Motors for their support.
"Goalkeepers are left out," McRae said. "Really, there's no-one in Orange who is a specialist coach or has the level of experience that Amy has."
Thornberry is now based in Forbes and plays hockey in Parkes.
