The design for Australia's largest art gallery has been unveiled in Melbourne, set to open in 2028.

The National Gallery of Victoria Contemporary, designed by Angelo Candalepas and Associates will have 13,000 square metres of display space, a rooftop sculpture terrace and restaurant.
"As the Eiffel Tower is Paris the NJVC will be to Melbourne," Creative Industries Minister Danny Pearson told reporters on Tuesday.
"It's going to put us on the global stage as being a destination for the finest art in the world.
"You'll be able to come here and see works of art you can't see anywhere else in the country."
The new gallery was first announced in 2018 and will be a part of a redeveloped Melbourne Arts Precinct, which will have new public parklands running from St Kilda Road, Southbank and through to Melbourne's riverfront.
The precinct redevelopment is costing about $1.7 billion, including the extensive restoration of the State Theatre.
