Major Young said Christmas 2021 had been unlined by huge generosity from the community which he put down to the easing of COVID-19 restrictions.
"I think there's a lot of release, people have been locked up for so long," Major Young said.
The fundraising effort of Orange High School's student representative council typifies Orange's response with the SRC raising over $3000 and then spending it on gifts as part of the Kmart Wishing Tree appeal.
Major Young said while the fundraising was great, the students buying the toys was also appreciated by his troops.
"It takes a lot of pressure off us ... and it's incredibly generous."
OHS SRC coordinator Alex Boog said the students had worked hard to raise the money.
"It required so much effort and it wasn't just the prefects it was the whole SRC."
