The Movement for Better Government [MBG], initiated by Bryan M'Crystal, is aiming to address a perceived lack of constructive thought and consideration from elected federal MP's when dealing with national initiatives.
Mr M'Crystal believes the key flaw lies in Australia's two-party political system and vested party interests, and is campaigning for the country to abolish political parties in favour of independent parliamentarians.
"Since Federation, we have been governed by political parties whose prime motivation has been power and gaining control of the 'gravy train' that is Canberra," he said.
"Inevitably, the [so called] two-party system that has evolved has resulted in the party in government running the country in their own interest and looking after their 'vested interest friends': either 'rampant capitalists' or 'socialistic extremes'.
With the next federal election scheduled to take place either on or before May 22 next year, Mr M'Crystal said he's hoping to generate further interest in MBG around the Calare electorate, and has future ambitions for the movement to target seats in both houses.
"My motives are genuinely altruistic, and I have no personal ambition for parliament," Mr M'Crystal said.
"All I want is the pleasure of seeing the movement become an entity and watching the transition of our Senate and House of Representatives to true democracy."
Mr M'Crystal has published a 17-page manifesto outlining his goals for the movement, including local electorate selection committees and membership targets, to push towards a parliament of independent members putting their electorate before self and party interests.
"I plan to spend the rest of my life pursuing this goal, and should there be enough interest, we will become the founder members of the movement and the start of a new parliamentary future," he said.
"Whatever support is received in the short term, we shall world incessantly to build upon."
Mr M'Crystal will co-host a MBG community event with Officer of the Order of Australia holder Don Grant at The Orange Ex-Services' Club on Monday, December13 from 7pm.
