Kalisha's compassion, integrity and kindness were acknowledged with a Fred Hollows Humanity Award at an online ceremony earlier this month.
The Humanity Award is a national initiative of The Fred Hollows Foundation that recognises year six students who follow in the late Fred Hollow's footsteps by demonstrating humanitarian values towards others.
Kalisha was nominated for the award by Borenore principal Melissa Campbell for being a hard-working student who always gives her best.
"She is always first to help any sad, hurt or lonely student in our playground," Ms Campbell said.
"Kalisha is our school captain and is often called upon to do jobs at school, she never hesitates to serve her school community."
Since 2012, the Fred Hollows Humanity Award has recognised more than 1,600 students who follow in Fred's footsteps by making a positive difference in the lives of others.
Founding director of The Fred Hollows Foundation Gabi Hollows congratulated more than 200 students from across Australia for their kindness, compassion, and integrity.
"The past 18 months have been tough for everyone, but especially for those whose schooling was interrupted by the pandemic," Ms Hollows said.
Ms Hollows said the students were making a difference in their communities.
"It's incredibly humbling to read about what [the students] have been doing," she said.
"I know that Fred himself would be so proud of the young humanitarians who have been honoured."
During the ceremony, Olive Elliott, from Woolgoolga Public School, was announced as the New South Wales Junior Ambassador.
