Back-to-back seasons have been lost throughout the pandemic and Blimka, the new two blues president, says a combined Western Premiership will serve as a shot in the arm for rugby league in the region.

But Blimka, a former Group 10 board member, has joined a chorus of rugby league administrators in the region calling for more clarity around what the new competition will look like.

A host of Group 11 clubs are against the move while Group 10 clubs, in the main, are supportive of the new concept but share a concern in the lack of detail being released by New South Wales Rugby League officials.

A draw was promised in June, then July and then extended further to be released before the end of the year, but with preparations for 2022 in full swing clubs are getting itchy feet.

"It's a new concept and, like everything, there's going to be pros and cons," he said.

"But change is a positive. I think Group 10 might have been getting a bit stale and with COVID a new competition might give everyone a new lease on life.

"Plus, it'll give is a chance to prove our worth against Group 11's clubs too."

Blimka was on deck on Friday to unveil the club's new premier league mentor, with Shane Rodney joining the club.

Rodney joins the Group 10 club after three seasons as coach of St Mary's Sydney Shield side and has also played in two premiership winning NRL sides - Penrith in 2003 and Manly in 2011.

Rodney is 38 and has indicated he won't be playing in 2022 - that's not an issue, Blimka says.

"People might say a non-playing coach, you don't get that value. But his experience and knowledge and playing background, it's going to be great for the club and the players coming through. It's good for the future," Blimka said.

Blimka has been a long-time committee man for Hawks and said taking on the top job at the club in 2022 was about helping club prosper at all levels.

Importantly, he says, that's not a one-man mission.

Alongside Rodney's obvious expertise, Blimka will have the likes of Bobby Wykamp (sports trainer) and Alex Prout (assistant coach) helping the top grade while veteran Jared Brodrick is keen to help facilitate the pathway for Bloomfield juniors into the Hawks' senior grades.

Blimka said last year's president Mark Johnston will remain at the club, too, and Jason Greenhalgh and Glen Robinson, long-time Bloomfield administrators, were also on deck for Hawks' committee in 2022, and he said they're keen to get stuck in to the new year as well.

"The nucleus is there for a positive season," Blimka added. "For me, it was time. I've still got three boys playing. It's a proactive committee and Johnno staying on helps. I just want to see the club keep going."
