Jerome Lander, 26, of Woodward Street, was driving in Woodward Street when police saw his Mitsubishi Triton swerve across two lanes at 1.15am on June 26.
He was stopped for a random breath test and had slurred speech and glazed eyes. "It won't be good," he was quoted as saying to the police officer.
Lander tested positive so was arrested and taken back to Orange Police Station where he returned a high-range result of 0.165.
Solicitor Mason Manwaring said Lander started to walk home but was not thinking clearly and drove a short distance.
Magistrate David Day convicted Lander, placed him on a 12-month Community Correction Order, disqualified his driver's licence for three months and placed him on a 24-month interlock order.
"He knew he was affected by alcohol and was spoken to by police for the road-side breath test," Mr Day said.
