Michael George Van Fossen, 33, of Carinda, south-west of Walgett, was on his P1 licence when he was stopped by police in Eyles Street, Glenroi, on April 17.
He tested positive to cannabis and told the police he consumed the drug a week earlier.
Magistrate David Day convicted him in his absence, fined him $330 and disqualified his driver's licence for three months.
The previous day, Shannon Williams, 30, of Goorawin Road, was also caught driving with cannabis in his system at 3pm. He also said he had cannabis the previous week.
Mr Day disqualified Williams' driver's licence for six months and convicted him without further penalty.
