Mrs Hammond has created a market event for pre-loved fashion to be held on the south court of the city precinct on Sunday, November 21 and women with a wardrobe needing a spring clearing are welcome to get involved.
"Our Pre-Loved Market Day is really an event that will bring women together from all walks of life to share their love of fashion in a sustainable way," Mrs Hammond explained, adding children's clothing was also welcome.
A former boutique owner herself, Mrs Hammond said she'd always thought about ways to better use unsold fashion items and recent news reports on the impact of surplus donated clothing and its environmental toll prompted her to action,.
"According to Inside Waste, each Australian contributes an average of 23kg of textiles to landfill each year," she said.
Orange fashion boutiques have signed on for the market day and attendees will have access to specials as part of the market.
Stall holders will be able to participate in a swap meet with other stall holders prior the market opening to the public.
Sparkling wine, Spilt Milk gelato, Groundstone coffee and food, and live music by Robbie Mortimer will be available. The event is registered as COVID safe and all precautions will be in place to meet government requirements.
Entry to the market is just $5 and kids are free. The day will also be a fundraiser for Housing Plus' The Orchard.
Tickets are essential to monitor crowd numbers and maintain COVID safe practices.
