Member for Orange Phil Donato said: "I understand the six were all connected.
"They weren't at hospital as of [Saturday] night. They were at home, all isolating."
Isolate, stay calm and don't go out panic buying
- Phil Donato, member for Orange
Mr Donato urged people to attend one of the testing centres. Drive-thru testing clinics are open at Wade Park and the Orange Showground.
The Western NSW Local Health District revealed a list of exposure sites including Woolworths in Anson Street and the Bunnings store.
"Get tested if you've been to one of those areas of concern," he said.
"Isolate, stay calm and don't go out panic buying."
Mr Donato said he received a phone call from NSW Health late on Saturday confirming the cases. He said he was still awaiting a complete briefing.
Mr Donato said the outbreak "was not unexpected" after traces had been found in the city's sewage last week.
Orange mayor Reg Kidd said the numbers of people getting tested in Orange had been falling in the past week.
"We need to make sure all sectors of the community, all suburbs, are getting tested and getting vaccinated," he said.
"We want to see a real increase in COVID testing in Orange. We need to really ramp it up," he said.
Cr Kidd said it was important people did not become complacent about the virus.
From Monday it is compulsory for people to wear masks in public unless they are exercising.
Testing is available in Orange at:
- Wade Park Sports Ground 113 Moulder Street from 10am to close today (Sunday 22 August), and 8am to 4pm weekdays (Barrett & Smith drive through service).
- Orange Showground on Leeds Parade from 8am to 4pm, seven days a week (Laverty drive through service).
