Drink-drivers Rudra Ghale, Aaron Driver, Sue Ooi convicted in Orange

The first to face magistrate David Day was Rudra Bahadar Ghale, 43, of Sampson Street. Ghale was caught driving with a low-range blood alcohol reading on the evening of May 8.

According to court documents, the 43-year-old chef had come to police attention when they observed a red Mazda "turn at speed from Albert Street onto Dalton Street.... appearing to be in a hurry".

After stopping and submitting Ghale to a breath-test, he returned a reading of 0.071. Mr Day said the offence was aggravated by Ghale's mid-range drink-driving conviction in 2017.

Ghale was disqualified from driving for one month and placed on a mandatory interlock device order for 12 months. He was also fined $550.

Aaron Dylan Ingle Driver, 20, of west Orange, was also convicted of drink-driving on Monday. Driver had come to police attention at around 2am on June 13 while driving on Summer Street without his headlights on.

After being stopped and breath-tested, Driver returned a mid-range reading of 0.112.

While Mr Day took Driver's young age, remorse and the fact he had no prior drink-driving convictions into account, Driver could not escape a mandatory interlock order when 90 percent of NSW's drink-driving accidents occurred in rural areas.

The offence was aggravated by the fact Driver was a P-plater. He received a mandatory interlock order for 12 months and was disqualified for one month.

Also convicted of mid-range drink-drinking on Monday was Sue Lynn Ooi, 35, of Autumn Street. Ooi failed to appear before Mr Day when she was convicted of drink-driving at night on Bathurst Road when it was also raining.

According to police, Ooi was stopped for a random road-side breath test shortly before 1am on July 16.

While speaking to her officers observed that her "speech was slightly slurred and there was a strong scent of intoxicating liquor on her breath".

She gave a 0.081 reading. Ooi was disqualified for two months, placed on a mandatory interlock order for 12 months and fined $220.
