To 9am Friday morning Western NSW had an increase of 17 cases in Dubbo and two more in Walgett, taking the total to 25.
Mr McLachlan said that there would be more numbers in coming days and that a significant increase in cases was expected.
"The majority of those cases today were infectious in the community," he said.
"The large proportion of all known cases are aboriginal and worryingly some of those are kids."
The latest information had two patients in hospital with one in intensive care.
In the past 24 hours as of Friday afternoon, 6000 tests had been done in Western NSW, with 4000 of those in Dubbo.
"Testing is our absolute solution to getting in front of COVID and stopping it dead in our region," Mr McLachlan added.
"This is the time to stay home across the whole Western NSW. Please don't go to a sporting event over the weekend. If you have the ability to keep your kids at home, keep your kids at home."
As for vaccines, the health boss said that 7000 more doses are making their way out west.
"We don't have information yet on Local Government Areas and I'm expecting we will see that in the coming days," Mr McLachlan said of vaccination rates.
"It's the perfect planning tool in helping us to understand where we have high rates of vaccination and where we need to focus more.
"What we know is the Aboriginal community has a vaccination rate of 30 per cent across the whole of Western NSW. Can I please implore all Aboriginal people across Western NSW, this is the time to get vaccinated."
Referencing all of Western NSW he added: "This weekend is the most crucial time we'll ever have. It's not a time to socialise with friends or to have a beer down at the pub or leave your house for any reason you don't need to."
More venues of concern have been identified in Western NSW, but Mr McLachlan said they were unable to say how many people from the Orange Local Government Area had been to those venues during the time of concern.
