Ian Edward Bell, 52, of Matthews Avenue, had been stopped by police for a random road-side test while he was driving along his own street late in the evening on May 8.
According to police, when officers asked Bell to produce his licence he said he didn't have one. Checks revealed that he was disqualified from driving until 2032.
While a breath test proved negative to alcohol, an oral fluid test proved positive to two illicit drugs: cannabis and methylamphetamine.
When asked about his drug taking, Bell said he had "smoked some ice and weed at a party three or four days ago".
Despite not turning up to court on Monday, Bell was still convicted and fined $330 for driving on drugs.
