Orange City Council is working on plans for a public party in McNamara Street likely to feature live music and food and drink outlets.
Street art has been painted on walls and a toilet block and will extend to the road surface in the area between Summer and Kite streets.
We will definitely have it, it's just when
- Cr Reg Kidd, Orange mayor
New trees, lighting and seating are part of the rejuvenation under the FutureCity CBD revamp project.
Festoon lighting will also be installed across an adjacent car park which is also awaiting re-sealing and more street art.
Orange mayor Reg Kidd said a date had not been set but it was likely in the warmer months of the year.
"We will definitely have it, it's just when" he said.
And he said the party would need to fit in with COVID-19 restrictions.
Cr Kidd said the work would transform the street and fit in with local businesses including the Blind Pig Sound Lounge and Bar, the Hive Orange and nearby restaurants.
He said visitors who stayed at the Quest Apartments would use McNamara Street as a thoroughfare to get to the CBD.
Cr Kidd said the work epitomised the FutureCity idea.
"It really livens that part of the CBD district," he said.
Plans for future use of the street and car park include markets and movie nights.
Cr Stephen Nugent told Tuesday night's council meeting he supported having a celebration to recognise the completion.
"It's starting to look really good and I know there are some more works to be done," he said.
"I think we should [have a public celebration] to acknowledge that great piece of work."
CEO David Waddell said it was proposed council staff would work with the owner of the Blind Pig and the Orange Chamber of Commerce to plan a celebration.
Crews this week have been working on poles to support the lighting in the car park. A council report said it was hoped the current stages of FutureCity work could be completed next month.
