Robert Howard Caulkett, of Autumn Street, said he attended the collection facility run by Tomra Cleanaway Pty on Saturday, May 8, with his used bottles.
However, when he got there he discovered the machine was not working.
Caulkett got frustrated and kicked the control panel causing the screen to smash.
Caulkett contacted the company's call centre two days later and admitted to damaging the machine.
A technician was sent out and confirmed there was $3000 damaged to the machine.
Police spoke with Caulkett on May 23 and he admitted to kicking it while wearing steel cap boots.
Magistrate David Day convicted Caulkett and placed him on a 12-month Conditional Release Order.
"This is one that needs general deterrence," Mr Day said.
