The NSW Electoral Commission says it will need 193 staff to run the Orange City Council poll, 121 for the Cabonne Council election and 52 staff for the Blayney Shire Council poll.

The Orange workers needed include 147 on election day, Saturday September 4.

A further 110 will be needed on election day for Cabonne and 42 on election day for Blayney.

The Orange and Cabonne council returning offices will be in Orange while the Blayney office will be in Bathurst.

Office assistants will be paid $29-$43 an hour while senior assistants will be paid $34-$51 an hour.

Poll day pay rates, including a training payment and meal allowance range from $448 to $1016, depending on the role.

The NSW Electoral Commission began recruiting more than 30,000 people across NSW for the work three weeks ago and positions are still available.

The Commission's Director of Election Support Services Wayne Morgan said the work ranged from marking names off the electoral roll, managing an entire polling place or being a ballot box guard.

"There's jobs on election day, of course, but there's also positions to be filled that begin up to eight weeks before the election," he said.

"All staff complete training, form part of a larger team working together to deliver the election and are paid at a competitive rate."

He said election officials perform a range of tasks on election day, including providing information to voters, sorting and counting ballot papers, assisting voters as they cast their vote and working together to implement COVID-safe practices.

The poll was to have been held last year but was postponed due to the pandemic.

"If you're available to work on Saturday, September 4 and enrolled to vote, you can submit an expression of interest to work as an election official," he said.

"You don't need previous experience, but many of our election day staff enjoy it so much, they return election after election.

Most councils are now nearing the end of their terms with some now having only one more meeting before the poll. Registration for candidates has been open for some time and close on August 4. The ballot draw to decide where candidates will be listed on the ballot papers is at 10am on August 5.

So far, with 67 days to go until the elections, 14 people have registered to stand for Orange council, one for the separate poll to elect the mayor, one person has registered to stand in Blayney and no registrations have been lodged for Cabonne, according to the NSW EC website.
