The year 12 Orange High School student broke the 0-0 deadlock with Dubbo College with about 15 minutes to go in their Astley Cup clash on Wednesday.
This proved to make all the difference as OHS held on despite a red card to Blake Randahl in the dying minutes.
The win meant Orange beat Dubbo in the tie and has left the Astley Cup up for grabs.
Speaking after the game Frecklington said: "I'm ecstatic with the win honestly.
"It couldn't really mean anything more being in year 12 and it being my last year of Astley Cup."
When he stepped up to take the winning free kick from near the half-way line, he wasn't expecting a goal off his boot, but he will take it nonetheless.
"My aim was to swing it to the back post and put a head on it but it ended up in the back of the net and I'm not going to complain," he added.
"It means a lot and now we can go into next term and go to Bathurst hoping to win the Astley Cup."
The final points score over the two days finished Orange 421 - Dubbo 379.
Speaking after the disappointing loss, Campbell Ross was looking on the positive side.
"We're still in it and we just have to hold our heads high and believe that we still have it in the bag," he said.
"After the goal we just had to hold our heads high because anything could happen to the last minute and keep pushing. They were a good team and they held it on."
Orange High School will now travel to Bathurst in the first week of term three to take on Denison College to complete the second day of their tie. This will decide who wins the Astley Cup.
